Martine and I are in California. We came for a wedding, but we’re sticking around a while longer, just for the heck of it.
We’ve covered a lot of ground in the last few days; from San Francisco to Truckee and Lake Tahoe, back to San Francisco by way of Napa Valley, and then down to Santa Cruz and back. We’ve seen a lot of nice things along the way (hey, it’s California), as well some stuff that was not so nice. Like the road kill, for example.
Road Kill Count (so far):
- Coyote (on the mountain road between St. Helena and Santa Rosa)
- Deer (on highway 280, near Cupertino)
- Wild boar (on highway 1, near Half Moon Bay)
- Shiny motorcycle (on highway 280 near San Mateo; fortunately the human component appeared to be alive and was being attended to by emergency services people)
Not included in the list are the various unidentifiable birds and rodents that are squished into the pavement every half mile on every highway. Also, the endless supply of odd and unusual detritus that line the highways, such as shoes, hats, mattresses, pants, flower pots, frying pans, basketballs, car parts, and cardboard boxes.

Perhaps there has been no better time to put your substantial photographic talents to work. ;)
Happy trails!

Irv, I’ve posted a few shots on Flickr, but I didn’t stop to shoot the roadkill.

Wow. Even the roadkill is better when you’re on holiday. I’m so jealous. :(
